Optimizing the Brain: From Stress to Calm in 3-5 Minutes

There's a way to use your own hands to smooth out the traffic that gets stuck in the head daily. This simple energy medicine technique is like opening a window to the head and letting the fresh air roll in.
How do you know when you need it? It depends on the person - in general, a person needs it when they've lost their groove. For some people, they have a hard time focusing, they get tired when reading. they could get tired when they exercise, even when walking! For others, they get frustrated easily, are highly reactive and are quick to blame others.
When the pattern is deeper, dyslexia is an indicator, as are balance issues, or stuttering. Chronic illnesses typically show this pattern, as well. To someone trained in The Eden Method, Core Energetics, or other energy medicine therapies, these signals simply indicate that the energy system has gone into an overwhelm pattern called Homolateral, which suggests that there is interrupted communication between the left and right sides of the body and brain. The solution, from the energy medicine perspective, is to help the system link back into a deeper coordination pattern. Energy exercises can be very effective in this scenario. Understanding that there's an identifiable and predictable energy pattern going on can shift the "Oh no! What's wrong with me?" experience into an "Ah hah! I just need to help my brain cross over again" insight.
What stimulates this Homolateral overwhelm pattern? Anything going on in a person's life that was too much for the brain to process comfortably - it could be a poor night's sleep, diet (insufficient or over-stimulating), interpersonal conflicts, lack of confidence, disappointment, environmental stressors or toxins... The causes are anything that was too much for the system to manage on that day. For me it happens when I spend too much time on the computer, am feeling pressured by a time deadline, or face an inconvenient obstacle. My sense is that the system does it as a way to slow a person down, since they're evidentially not going to do it themselves. In my system, it feels like a wire shorting out or just the opposite - like a balloon draining air.
I call the issue 'brain funk' and it's the most common energy pattern to test 'off' when I do my pre-test assessments on clients. It is also the first thing we address in a session and the most common exercise I recommend that my clients do for self-care.
From an energy medicine perspective, helping the system to shift out of a homolateral pattern is similar to learning how to pour oil on the Tin Man's joints - it doesn't take much, but it does take knowing What to add Where, so that system has a chance to move forward in a new groove. There are several techniques that can help, but this blog and the following youtube videos focus on the exercise that I have found to be the most fundamentally helpful.
It can be done on a chair, the side of your bed, or in a bathroom stall if necessary – it's a 2-5 minute experience that can bring a Healing Pause to a brain that craves it. That seeks it!
Don't let the simplicity of the exercise fool you - it's a champion! Give it a chance to create a new groove in your life.
